the Importance of having an art practice

I knew it was important to spend time practicing my skill. I knew that was the only way to develop my style and get good at it. So, I would practice for a couple of days… not see any progress (obviously) and get discouraged. I have recently tried to set a more realistic goal. For me, every day is not it. And I have been able to stick to it and see some progress. I have also promise myself not to give up despite the results. I would have say now I have a decent art practice and I am proud of where I am.

As an artist, it’s crucial to have a daily (or weekly) art practice. Even if it’s just a few minutes, practicing your art every day has numerous benefits that can help you grow and develop as an artist. In this blog post, we’ll explore the importance of having a daily/weekly art practice and the benefits it offers.

First and foremost, a daily art practice helps you develop discipline. Consistency is key when it comes to improving your skills and developing your style. By committing to creating art regularly, you’re building a habit that will help you stay on track and push you to create even on days when you may not feel like it. This discipline will help you to reach your full potential as an artist.

Furthermore, having a daily art practice allows you to experiment with new techniques and materials. By exploring new mediums and techniques on a regular basis, you expand your skill set and broaden your artistic vision. Trying new things can also help you break free from creative blocks and push you out of your comfort zone.

Another advantage of practicing your art daily is improved time management. As an artist, managing your time effectively can be a challenge. By committing to a daily art practice, you’re making time for your art and prioritizing it in your daily routine. This not only helps you develop a routine but can give you a sense of accomplishment, determination, and structure which can positively impact other areas of your life as well.

Having a daily art practice can also boost your creativity. When you’re creating art consistently, you’re constantly flexing your creative muscles which can lead to better ideas, more innovative techniques, and an enhanced ability to think outside the box.

Moreover, practicing your art daily can boost your confidence. This one was a huge for me! As you create and develop your skills, you’ll become more confident in your ability to create art that is unique, personal, and true to your vision. This confidence will help you to take more risks in your work, experiment with new techniques or mediums, and ultimately, lead to more growth as an artist.

Lastly, a daily art practice provides an opportunity for reflection and self-expression. Through creating art, you have a platform to express your thoughts and emotions that may not otherwise be easily articulated. Over time, you’ll find that creating art becomes a form of self-care, allowing you to engage with your thoughts and feelings in a healthy and productive way.

I also find that it helps reset my mind and calm my nerves when I am stressed because it makes me focus on the one task I am working on rather than all the things out my control. So, I include it in my schedule and I don’t skip it. I get it done. Sometimes I schedule 5 minutes, or sometimes a full hour (all depending on my day). I sometimes try to get it done during the weekend with my girls whether is coloring or watercoloring or whatever else they chose.

In conclusion, practicing your art daily has numerous benefits. From developing discipline and improving time management to boosting creativity and confidence, having a daily art practice can have a transformative effect on your art and your life beyond that. By committing to a regular practice, you’ll not only improve your skills as an artist but build a lifestyle that values creativity, discipline and growth. You will become the artist you want to be because by doing art daily (or almost daily) you will start to believe that you are an artist.

IF you make art, you are an artist.

I never knew I could make something like this… I still stare at it and think ‘how did I do it?’ And think the answer is practice…

I hope I have persuade to keep trying, to not give up on your dreams, and not to listen to anyone, especially to that killer inner voice that sometimes tells you that you are not good enough. Because I know you can do anything you want! All you what do is believe in yourself and give yourself a chance. Just a little chance will make all the difference!

You got this!

Happy drawing,

Ana
